If you are visiting the site, there is a chance that you do not know much about the church of Christ. We are not ashamed of who we are, Who we seek to serve, or what we believe. Members of the church of Christ seek one simple thing: To please and glorify our Father in heaven while on earth that one day we may be with Him there! We are unlike many of the churches found in the world in many ways. We hope that you’ll investigate what makes us unique, and we think you will like what you find. For more information about the Mayfield church of Christ view our Frequently Asked Questions and our History. If you have any questions about the church of Christ or about our church contact us.
First of all, our mission in life is to be the "light of the world" (Matt 5:14), and that that light will "glorify our Father who is in heaven" (Matt 5:16). We are a people who love God. It is from His hand that every "good and perfect gift" has come (Jam 1:17), with the greatest gift of all being the gift of His Son Jesus, the Christ (2 Cor 9:15, Jn 3:16)! We realize that we can never repay His love and favor towards us, but we seek to show Him our love and devotion the best that we can. Our love for our Father also calls us to a deep respect of Him. The Hebrews' writer said "let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear" (Heb 12:28). This blend of love and respect leads us to lives full of joy, yet governed by His will, worship that is full of emotion, while conducted in reverence, and a view towards those outside that seeks to reach as many as we can with the truth.
The love and respect that we hold for our Father in Heaven leads us to love and respect His will for our lives. We believe that the Bible is in fact the word of God. As such, it alone is the governing agent of our lives and our worship. Peter said "His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue" (2 Pet 1:3). We need no other message than the Bible; it is all that we need to do what God desires in our lives (2 Tim 3:16-17). We hold God’s word in the highest regard; it is the final authority in all matters. We do not seek to add to, or take away from it (Rev 22:18-19). As such, we have no creed or constitution, we do not rely on others for our spiritual guidance, and our lives and worship are patterned after the model found in the New Testament. This may sound simple, but simple is the way God designed Christianity (2 Cor 11:3)!
Finally, we are a people who are deeply concerned for the lost. Some of Jesus’ final words while on earth were "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Mat 28:19-20). The church’s primary mission is to teach the gospel of Christ to a lost world, and we humbly try to do that! The greatest good that we could accomplish while on earth is to help as many as possible come to know Jesus Christ through obedience. Our hope and prayer is that our lives may be God’s instruments of evangelism as we seek to please Him in all things.
